Ballparks, arenas and a seat for the actual match.
Stadium tours show you the empty stands. These put you in a full one: an MLB night at Fenway or Dodger Stadium, the NBA in Brooklyn, ice hockey in Montreal, a Flamengo game at the Maracanã.
Three combat sports you have to travel to see properly.
You can watch any of them on a screen at home. None of them sounds the same as from a plastic seat ten rows back.

Muay Thai
Every bout opens with the wai kru, a slow ritual dance to honour the teacher, played over a live band of pipe and drums that speeds up as the rounds do. The big Bangkok stadiums run cards most nights; the beach stadiums in Phuket and Samui pack in tourists and local fighters on the same bill.

Grand sumo
A basho runs fifteen days, and the top division comes on late in the afternoon after a ring-entering ceremony in embroidered aprons. Before each bout the wrestlers throw salt to purify the ring and stare each other down, sometimes for longer than the bout itself lasts.

Lucha libre
Masked heroes and villains, a referee who looks the other way, and a crowd that knows every move by name. A mask is a wrestler’s identity, and losing one in a bet match is the biggest thing that can happen in a career. Friday night at the arena is the classic.

Four sporting bookings the fixture list decides for you.
A museum keeps the same hours all year. Sport does not: seasons, tournaments and television schedules move the dates, and a stadium tour can vanish on the one day you planned it.
- 01Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with TicketsSix grand tournaments a year, three of them in Tokyo, in January, May and September. Outside those weeks there is no top-division sumo to watch, only practice visits and shows.
- 02Tokyo: Sumo Morning Practice Viewing TourStables train early in the morning and keep their own schedules. Around tournaments and on rest days practice can be off, and visits depend on silence: no talking, no flash.
- 03Madrid: Tour Bernabéu Entry TicketStadium tours run shorter routes or close on match days, and big European nights can shut the dressing rooms the day before too. Pick your date after the fixture list comes out.
- 04Phuket: Patong Boxing Stadium Muay Thai Match TicketLeague kick-off times are often confirmed only a few weeks out, when the broadcasters choose their games. Keep the evenings either side of a match date free.
